Due to COVID, New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) was forced to close both its production of Endlings and Sanctuary City which was still in previews. However, the NYTW crew jumped straight into virtual programming including Masterclass Mondays, Fireside Chats with affiliate artists on Wednesdays and various other talks on Friday including their monthly open mics. For each talk, participants were allowed to join either over Zoom (where they could turn on their video for questions during the Q&A portions) or over Facebook live. While NYTW took their traditional summer break, recordings of past programming can be found here.
As the future of theater in New York City is still uncertain, NYTW has not planned a full 2020/2021 artistic season but rather given 26 (and counting!) artists grants of $2500 each “develop new work and to share that work with audiences in both existing formats and in ways yet to be imagined”. The list of “artistic instigators” can be found here.
